Resumen Due to the degree ofheterogeneity of the Vaca Muerta formation, some deal of controversy has arisen in the argentine oil industry about the role ofreservoir characterization in successfully predicting such variations and the way it could impact the profits of exploitation. In this context we applied an unconventional reservoir characterization workflow in the Bandurria Centro area, based on the integration of stratigraphy, petrophysics, geophysics, geostatistics and geomechanics that produced a set of attributes that could be a key input towards a more efficient drilling and completion planning. For that purpose, we considered: facies, organic matter content and its degree of maturity, brittleness, current mechanical conditions, existing fracturing and uncertainty ofthe prediction. The workflow applied began with the definition of a geological framework based on the stratigraphic cycles that can be identified in seismic and correlated at well locations. Cycle limits, interpretedalong the seismic volume as time horizons, set the framework to build a predictive tool based on simultaneous seismic inversion, whose results constitute a tridimensional model representing the variability of the sedimentary sub-environments deposited along each cycle. This variability was represented within each sub-environment as a set of facies defined in terms of mechanical behavior, mineral composition, compaction, texture, and preservation oforganic matter. Formation evaluation collaborated in the description of features of the lithological column at each well location and assisted the facies classification. It also helped in the definition of facies specific rock physics relationships and in the prediction of facies distribution by means of geoestatistical propagation with seismofacies as soft data. The stratigraphic framework and the facies distribution provided the information on where the greatest amount of organic matter might have been preserved, its disposition pattern and whether it would facilitate or not the hydraulic fracturing. In addition, as an unconventional reservoir is in fact created by hydraulic fracturing, current mechanical conditions were also predicted. Understanding the quality of the dataset and its relationship with the geological framework, handling its uncertainty and limitations, add significant value for decision-making on the future data acquisition and development of the Bandurria Centro field.
