| Resumen | The Cañadón Seco-León reserve area, at the southern flank of San Jorge Gulf Basin, has three productive objectives in the Chubut group: Cañadón Seco Fm, Mina del Carmen Fm and Pozo D-129 Fm, with the last one in an early stage of development. The D-129 reservoir in the Cañadón Seco-León area has been developed through vertical wells until the drilling of the first pilot horizontal during 2021, currently under production evaluation. Reservoir properties are variable with a porosity ranging from 8 to 26% and a matrix permeabilities from 0.001 to 1 md (with values up to 10 md). Due to its tight reservoir characteristic, hydraulic fracturing is required for commercial production. The low stress contrast among vertical zones generates challenges for its development with vertical wells; the number of fracture stages and treatment size to avoid interference between fractures being one of them. It was the lack of barriers to vertical growth what suggested that migration to horizontal wells could be an adequate solution for development of the field. During the planning phase of the pilot horizontal well the need arose to select a proper landing zone that optimizes contact of the entire thickness. In the present work, we will show how dynamic/static modeling of the reservoir and the geomechanics of rocks were used to adjust both the geometry of the hydraulic fractures and the history match of production to optimize Vertical and Horizontal well completions. For that purpose, wells completed from 2017 to the present were analyzed |
