Resumen La Luna Formation (Cenomanian-Turonian) is considered as world-class source rock and is the main hydrocarbon source rock of the Maracaibo/Catatumbo and Middle Magdalena Valley basins in Venezuela and Colombia. The objective of the present contribution is to present a regional approach of the northern sector of the Middle Magdalena Valley basin, where La Luna Formation might have achieved conditions to be considered as an unconventional reservoir. La Luna Formation is between 400 and 500 m thick and its divided in three (3) members: from base to top, Salada, Pujamana and Galembo. The Salada and Galembo are carbonate-rich while the Pujamana member is richer in clay minerals. From a geochemical point of view, the Galembo member contains a 250-350 m thick organic-rich with a Total Organic Carbon (TOC) concentration mean of 3.5% and peaks of 6% homogeneously distributed. Thermally, La Luna is in the oil-generation window in the study area. La Luna porosity range between 8 and 12%, while water saturation mean is between 24 and 28%. Hydrocarbon storage goes from 417 to 762 bo/acre*ft and in-place resources between 19 MMbo/ km2 y 26 MMbo/km. From a geomechanical point of view, we identified between 2 and 4 landing zones based on the stress regime observed. We defined a 2 landing zones base case for Galembo. The developable area is around 850 km2 based on depth ranging between 2100 and 3660 m (7000 and 12000 feet). The in-place calculated resources are 36 Bbo. La Luna unconventional play is of great interest, but there are some critical aspects to be considered. On one side, legal regulations of hydraulic fracturing are still on debate in Colombia. Additionally, the close proximity of the Eastern Cordillera and the degree of burial reached by La Luna limit its developable area
