| Resumen | According to world statistics, it is estimated that NPTs (non-productive times) represent 15% of the drilling times of oil and gas companies. Nowadays, drilling has become more complex as horizontal and extended reach wells react differently to stresses compared to vertical and / or low angle wells. Also, numerous geological factors can complicate the drilling leading to expensive sidetracking or casing operations. The amount of wellbore instability can be predicted as function of stresses, pore pressure, well trajectory and rock properties using a geomechanical model. The confidence of the geomechanical model is related to the available data and the events encountered during drilling from offset wells, whose causes can be recognized, allowing drillers to mitigate their effects with minimal disruption of the drilling program. This paper presents a methodology for a real situation of low availability of data, starting from a quality control of the data, through an evaluation of the uncertainties associated and determining how to integrate the operational procedures to understand the wellbore behavior. A case from Estrecho de Magallanes will be presented where a Post-Morten analysis was performed to understand the instability problems reported on Palermo Aike formation. A risk map is described, which turns out to be key in determining the necessary data for the next wells, in order to reduce/mitigate risks during drilling. Additionally, an integration is made with seismic data, drilling data, operational procedures, log data, calibration data (LOT, MDT, etc) and a detailed caving analysis were performed to understand the wellbore failure type which could assist on operational procedures used during drilling. Results shows that multiple failure modes were observed from a mass of cavings, but hole cleaning and fluid penetration also played an important role on the wellbore stability. The lack of data reduced the confidence of some analyzes performed and in virtue of this, a recommendation is described and suggestions regarding on how to manage these lack of data is presented.INTRODUCCIÓNCuando se opera en áreas con pozos perforados en el pasado, la falta de información y/o falta de disponibilidad de datos es un problema común que enfrentan muchas operadoras.
