Resumen The Springhill Fm is the main reservoir in the Austral (Magallanes) Basin, located in the southernmost tip of South America. The Springhill Fm. comprises several sedimentary cycles, mainly transgressive, composed of sediments accumulated in continental, littoral and open marine environments.During the definition of some exploratory prospects in the northern area of Fell Block (Chile), some doubts arose regarding the presence and the characteristics of the main reservoir. In order to reduce the exploratory risk (areal distribution, thickness and facies), GeoPark carried out a thorough interdisciplinary study in which three scales of work were integrated: seismic, well logs and core samples. For this purpose, seismic amplitude and acoustic inversion cubes were used, also E-logs of 16 wells and almost 100 m of core samples. As a result of the analysis of the core samples, it was possible to recognize 18 sedimentary facies, grouped into 3 facies associations: a) Belts of fluvial channels with tidal influence, b) Inner estuary and c) Shallow platform. From the petroleum viewpoint, the interpretation was focused on the association of facies A (Fluvial channels with tidal influence), due to its good petrophysics quality, higher thickness and areal development.Subsequently, the facies and facies associations were tied to the well logs and used to prepare representative stratigraphic cross sections. Five main sequence boundaries (1-5) were distinguished, from which the 2nd, 4th and 5th separate the 3 identified facies associations in the core samples. A transgressive pattern is observed where, depending on the accommodation space available, the facies association A occurs; over this appears the facies association B and ends with the facies association C.Lastly, these cross sections were linked to the PSTM and the acoustic inversion cubes. The lower sandy layers of facies association A (Fluvial channels with tidal influence) showed an excellent correlation with a low impedance reflector, which allowed a better prediction of the distribution of this reservoir in the whole structure and, in this way, reduce the exploration risk related to the reservoir quality.
