Resumen The thrust-and-fault belt (TFB) of the northern Subandean of Bolivia is still a frontier exploratory area, with no commercial discoveries to date. In the last 9 years, new efforts have been made in the acquisition of information, regional and local interpretations in order to achieve a better understanding of the structural architecture and petroleum systems in such a way that they make it possible to identify exploratory opportunities, understand synchronism (timing) and reduce risks. This "thin skinned" TFB is the result of transmission of shortening of at least two deeper ("thick skinned") detachments that are part of the Eastern Cordillera. Deformation began at ~23 Ma in the west, being younger than 2 Ma in the eastern part of the basin. Shortening would have occurred through major detachments located within Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian sediments. Although with more localized development, the Copacabana formation (Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian) has a significant importance because of its plastic fluency, generating important disharmonies between the lower and upper levels. The sedimentary wedge involved in the deformation presents particularities that control the development and configuration of this TBF. The Paleozoic sedimentary column, which contains the main units that favor the development of the detachments, wedges towards the Northeast onlapping the basement, being truncated progressively by the erosional pre-Jurassic unconformity. The current development of a basement-involved tectonics, the result of inversion of old extensive faults, generates incipient folds in the overlying TFB.The description of numerous oil seeps indicates the existence of active petroleum systems although many of those surface emanations can be interpreted as a result of decompression. The available information allows classifying the Copacabana formation as a good source rock. The Devonian formations (Tomachi and Tequeje) have good generating potential but data are still lacking to characterize them fully. The thermal calibration associated with AFT and ZFT data indicate the existence of a thermal event that took place at the end of the Triassic. Therefore, the geochemical models calculate two expulsion pulses. The most important one occurred at the end of the Triassic - early Jurassic. The second pulse, related to the Andean tectonics, can be subdivided locally into two phases: a phase before the tectonic loading and another phase associated with sedimentation and erosion
