Resumen The residual oil saturation (Sor) of a reservoir represents the productive limit to a specific recovery process (Water Flooding or Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery, CEOR). Single Well Chemical Tracer Tests (SWCTTs) are often used to assess Sor in a region as far as 7 meters from the wellbore. Assess of Sor can be done before and after an CEOR process injection to determinate its efficiency. The technique is based on the chromatographic separation of oil-water partitioning tracer and non-partitioning tracer. Detection and quantification of tracers are performed by gas chromatography. In 2015, YPF carried out the first SWCTT in Argentina at Chihuido de la Sierra Negra field, Neuquén province. The second SWCTT was carried out in 2017 in the same field. These operations provided the opportunity to couple and deploy laboratory and field activities together with YPF, Y-TEC and Comahue National University (UNComa) to achieve technical understanding and advance the technology local replication. Both tests allowed understanding and overcoming the operational difficulties and challenges of this kind of operation. The project consists of: 1. Understanding the physics and chemistry related to the test, in order to develop a local service of measurements and interpretation. 2. Understanding process and operations involved on the test leading to a possible implementation of this services on the field. 3. Implement a commercial service applying this technology. 4. Investigate, develop, and optimize new alternatives and applications.During the previously mentioned operations, YPF and Y-TEC were responsible of well selection, logistics, operations, and execution of each SWCTT.The determination of tracer’s concentration via HS/GC/FID and the interpretation of results were done by GMP group from UNComa. GMP’s laboratory is located at a distance of 350 kilometers from the tested wells. Therefore, a procedure to preserve samples during transport was necessary. The processing of results was done by two methods: One using theoretical models (MatLab algorithm) and the other one using numerical simulation (software). Both results were compared to get a better insight on the techniques. In addition, partition coefficient and kinetic coefficient of the tracers were determined for specific conditions of the tested wells.Local development of SWCTT‘s technology is a unique opportunity because it’s becoming a best practice to assess the residual oil saturation in the field. The purpose of this paper is to share experiences and results obtained from four partitioning tracer tests executed on two different wells in Neuquén, Argentina.
