A successful experience in Shushufindi Field The Shushufindi field Classified as a brown field, has a 400-square-kilometer area holds the largest reserves and currently produces 70 M BOPD, approximately 10 percent of the country’s total oil production. In 2012 a proposal to increase levels of investment and field activity was done by Schlumberger to the government forming a consortium under a specific services contract, where the consortium deploys the capital in order to comply with a minimum commitment of new wells, including production optimization, among other contractual obligations. As with many other brownfields, the challenges are numerous; in the case of Shushufindi field, the combination of factors including progressive water cut increase, corrosive environment, scale deposits, and aging production facilities presents a great challenge to the exploitation. Multidisciplinary efforts have been made to understand the geology and the dynamics of the fluid within the main productive sands to optimize current production and to accelerate production of proven reserves. As part of the strategy to start the project execution immediately after contract signature, a multidisciplinary group started to construct all the design bases required for operation in new wells and workover. After several months of investigation, the dynamic underbalance perforating technology was identify last 2012 as one of the options to implement in Shushufindi field in order to optimize the oil production from the main reservoirs (Ui and Ti). This technology brings several advantages over the traditional perforating operations already deployed in the field in terms of installation time, clean perforations, minimizes and eliminates perforation damage, extremely beneficial to optimize the fluid production in a well. The paper describes all the stages performed for the correct design of completion fluid, planning and basis design for well preparation that are requirements for a successful operation in new wells, and a well performance analysis after a complete two years of operation (24 original completions).
