In 1998, the rare bronze sculpture of the male athlete Apoxyomenos, dating from about the second century BCE, was found submerged on the bottom of the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia. Best known as The Scraper, the statue depicts an athlete scraping sweat and dust from his body with a small curved instrument. |
