Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Tokyo Gas, which tries to be a top runner in environmental management, has reduced the environmental impact of the company and customer's energy use, and has simultaneously lowered the cost of city gas. Our LNG terminals have acquired ISO14001 certificates - the first in the city-gas industry in Japan. Environmental burden has been reduced in many aspects. Carbon dioxide emission per gas production is held to about 1/4 of that in FY 1990. Curtailment of carbon dioxide emissions is not only saving the use of energy, but is also contributing to cost reduction. Two of main aspects of R&D to limit damage to the environment are described in this paper. One is a catalytic methane combustion system, useful in areas where naked flames are forbidden. It causes methane discharging from gas analyzers to react to carbon dioxide, without a carbon monoxide by-product. The other is cryogenic insulation of polyurethane foam without using chlorofluorocarbon at foaming. The new insulation shows an equivalent mechanical and physical performance to the conventional type, and is used in our LNG tank. Thus the amount of chlorofluorocarbon emitted has been greatly reduced when compared the conventional insulation.
