Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Tokyo Gas and Sumitomo Precision Products have jointly developed a new design method to effectively determine the optimal shape of heat exchanger tubes and thereby minimize the construction costs for LNG Open Rack Vaporizers (ORV). Compared to a conventional ORV, we successfully reduced the number of heat exchanger tubes by about 50%, lowered the floor space required for installation by about 30%, and finally reduced construction costs by about 20%. In order to cut construction costs, we pulled together over 30 years of expertise in ORV design technology to create a new design method. Using numerical analysis, it is possible to design the optimum shape of the heat exchanger tubes (e.g. the shapes and sizes of the internal and external surfaces). By applying this method to the design of the new ORV installation at Tokyo Gas’ Ohgishima Terminal (150 tons/hour × 2 units, completed in November, 2000), we dramatically increased the LNG throughput per heat exchanger tube, thereby also achieving our cost reduction target. We named this the HiPerV (High Performance Vaporizer). The new design method can accommodate different design conditions (e.g. operating pressure, seawater temperature, and LNG composition), and the HiPerV is presently being employed by other users as well as Tokyo Gas, thus allowing them to achieve their targets of equipment downsizing and cost reduction.
