Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: In operating large capacity LNG tanks, most of the site managers are concerned about how to improve efficiency of the tank operation and its safety. The major safety issue of consideration in the past was about a thermal stability problem of the stored LNG of different grades, which involves density layer evolution and its consequent hydrodynamic instability leading to a sudden increase in the boil-off gas (BOG) rate, known as "roll-over" phenomenon. Those studies [1,2,3] have been largely contributed to assist operator to analyze performance data and to ensure the safety operation for a specific tank condition. Along with that safety know-how, the operator needs to possibly monitor the efficiency operation such that the vapor compressors work most appropriately maintaining the tank pressure and the BOG rate as required under various storage stages, or such that the send-out LNG be managed to have uniform quality as needed. A detailed physical model is necessary to investigate on ageing properties of stock LNG, as well as on correlation between the unsteady BOG rate and the tank pressure. This work presents an integrated thermo-physical model for the stored LNG, which is capable of predicting for the BOG rates as well as the ageing properties for the bulk LNG over time, from given initial condition within an LNG tank. From the numerical prediction, we analyze how the BOG rates depend on the degree of super-saturation of the stored LNG, in terms of the tank pressure and the initial temperature of bulk LNG, and we suggest an efficiency storage operation, and its applicability. In addition, reliability of the predictive model is tested using the real data of tank operation.
