Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Potential targets suitable for CO2 storage in Germany are former and depleted gas fields, deep saline aquifers, and deep presently technically and economically unminable coal seams. Gas fields have retained natural gas over long times and their reservoirs are well known. Anticlinal aquifers, which are wide spread, are in use for natural gas storage and probably could be used to store CO2 in a similar manner. However, injection of large quantities of CO2 into deep low permeable coal seams is probably a geotechnical challenge. Deep aquifers, especially in North Germany provide the largest capacity for CO2 storage. Though the technical feasibility of CO2 storage has been demonstrated in principle in first field-size projects, questions concerning long-term safety and other issues remain open. Motivated by this changing political and ecological framework a pre-feasibility study was carried out for an aquifer storage project near Berlin. The location itself is well known since there is an underground storage facility for natural gas. By analyzing the existing data pool for the Ketzin anticline the suitability was proven although there is still need for exploration work. The structure offers a capacity of approx. 21 * 106 t CO2 in a depth range of 610 – 700 m bmsl which is enough for a long period of operation for a gas fired power station of 300 MW. The CO2 is supposed to be in the supercritical state in the reservoir. As an additional part of this study first considerations about well equipment and steel quality to be used were made.
