Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: This report describes the activities of Working Committee 3 during the triennium 2000 – 2003. The report consists of four parts dedicated to: – WOC3 Basic Activities: The world-wide LNG industry until 2001 and forecasts of its development for 2004 and 2014 – Report of WOC3 SG1: Safety and environmental management in LNG Plants – Report of WOC3 SG2: Operational know-how in liquefied gas terminals: current practices and networks of information exchange – Report of WOC3 SG-3: Aging of installations at LNG Terminals Within the basic activities of the Committee, the first part of the report gives a point of situation on the world-wide LNG industry until the end of the year 2001 as well as on the liquefaction capacity of LNG units and trains and their distribution by continent, country and company like on the world-wide LNG marketing. This report also gives a point of situation on natural gas liquefaction processes used in LNG industry and on LNG receiving terminals and on the sectorial uses by the LNG consumers. This report gives also the forecasts of the developed points for LNG industry in 2001 for 2004 and 2014, years when this industry will have reached forty and fifty years of existence. The second part of the report answers to the following questions: Why are Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) implemented in the day-to-day operation of LNG plants? How are SMS and EMS implemented ?; What are the benefits of both SMS and EMS ? Various examples of benefits in the organisation of the plants are described. The third part of the report evaluates the most common practices applied by LNG companies in technical information interchange. As a result of the information collected with the inquiry carried out, some recommendations are made in order to improve the exchange of information. A description of communication techniques is presented, for those tools that may represent an opportunity in this field. Some proposals to improve the information interchange between LNG Plants are suggested. An example of how SONATRACH/AVAL uses new digital communication technologies to improve the performance of the Algerian gas plants is given. In the fourth part of the report, the results of an investigation on the aging of the LNG terminal facilities are presented. In this investigation, the current deterioration states, maintenance states and repair/replacement states of main facilities in LNG receiving/liquefaction terminals built in 1990 or earlier all over the world have been researched.
