Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Japan National Oil Corporation (JNOC) investigated underground gas storage (UGS) using inert gas as cushion gas. In order to properly design UGS projects, JNOC has developed a UGS simulator, which can rigorously evaluate a heating value of withdrawn gas taking into consideration all the major phenomena that possibly affect composition of withdrawn gas. The functions developed for the UGS simulator were validated through test runs, which reproduced the observed performances from core flooding experiments and gas dissolution/adsorption tests. The simulator was then applied to the practical evaluation of actual field performances. The single well tracer tests were first simulated to analyze how reservoir heterogeneity enhanced the dispersion and mixing between injected and in-situ gases. Then, the simulation was attempted to reproduce the past UGS performances. Finally, the simulator was used for forecasting future performances of UGS with and without nitrogen cushion gas. This paper presents the applicability of the simulator to UGS in complex reservoirs and its advantages over commercial simulators in simulating UGS.
