| Resumen | Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. and Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. have succeeded in the development and practical implementation of the world's smallest and most lightweight submerged observation device that enables remote "eyeball" inspection of the interior of LNG storage tanks without the need to open them. This observation device is capable of operating at -162oC, while submerged in LNG. Moreover, since the device is small and lightweight, setup, use and removal from a tank is simplified. This enables observation work to be conducted using only human labor in environments that preclude the use of heavy machinery. The device is already being used in the inspection of the interior of LNG storage tanks at Tokyo Gas. Its ability to confirm the status of a tank's interior, after the start-up of an LNG underground tank, has been confirmed at Tokyo Gas and other companies, and its performance has been highly evaluated. In the future, with the aging of LNG storage tanks, regardless of whether the tanks are above ground, in-ground or underground, it is believed that the need to inspect tanks to confirm their safety/integrity will increase. Using this device will greatly facilitate these inspections. |
