Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: In a liberalised gas market, storage plays a key strategic role for shippers. As a result, storage companies need to offer a fast, reliable and flexible (contracts) service. Manual and semi-automated ways of working are not capable of meeting the demands of the new market. Furthermore, the risks associated with failing to meet contractual obligations can be huge (e.g. unfavourable spot market buys) adding to the need to provide fast and reliable levels of service without the ever present risk of human error. Not only does a shipper need fast and reliable access to the storage it has contracted, the shipper also wants to optimise its position through trades with other shippers, a service it very often looks to the storage operator to provide. Advances in Information Technology act as the enabler, bringing such business-to-business transactions to life via the internet. Prior to market liberalisation, Transco LNG Storage (TLNG) managed its operations using manual systems. However, in a liberalised market the increase in the number of transactions made it increasingly difficult to both meet the demands of the customers and to operate efficiently and profitably. As a result, TLNG required a system that would reduce the requirement to run a 24/7 Operations Desk, needed to handle customer transactions, allow immediate validation of customer transactions, remove the risk of human error, increase the number and variety of services that could be offered to customers and allow TLNG the flexibility to take the decisions needed to allow it to maximize revenue through the selling of capacity. The system implemented for TLNG by Advantica met these needs by embodying the business processes of TLNG and interfacing with the operational and commercial systems that were in place.
