Resumen Transcripción del abstract original del autor: The Ahnet Timimoun basin is a petroleum province with approximately 40 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of discovered gas in over 50 fields. This basin is keystone in Sonatrach’s plan to develop the gas resource of the western Sahara region. Three area fields (permit) being investigated respectively; In Salah by BP, Mekerrane (permit) by Petronas/GDF and recently Timimoun (permit) by Total Fina Elf. Other companies are operating in Reggane basin (Repsol/Edison/Rwe) and Sbaa basin (GDF) located in the vicinity of Ahnet-Timimoun basin More effective exploration and exploitation strategies will be necessary in the near future to appraisal the remaining resources. A technical evaluation of the Ahnet - Timimoun basin was conducted to determine the factors which constitute the petroleum system in this basin as well as to identify future hydrocarbon potential. A number of important observations have been made that lead to significant breakthrough in the understanding of specific aspect of the Ahnet - Timimoun basin petroleum system. The following new technical advances have been achieved : Sequence stratigraphic and Ordovician reservoir model Quantification of fracture development and distribution in the Ordovician reservoir. New model for structure development of the BH and GF gas fields involving Silurian age palaeostructure. This model better explains the hydrocarbon charge history for the field. Basin-centered gas accumulations concept
