| Resumen | Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Natural gas will continue to play a very vital role in the global energy scenario in general and that of the South Asian developing nations like Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam in particular during 21st century. The current situation vis-a-vis projection of gas reserve, supply and demand in the future energy perspectives of the region have tremendous opportunities for requisite infra-structural development. Accordingly technological innovations and activities both in upstream and downstream sectors will gain momentum. The tropical and sub-tropical climatic conditions, riverain alluvial plains to rocky mountainous terrain conditions and typical on-land, coastal and marine environments have so far pressed on adventurous execution of natural gas transmission network configuration of the region. Further, constrains were either from extraordinarily dense population based urban and sub urban load centers or the thick forests, rough seas, wide rivers and multiple estuaries having treacherous ground bed conditions. In this perspective the safety and environmental impact of gas transmission have been calling for exceptional attention for an environment-friendly operation. Accordingly, the paper is intended to discuss the current state of affairs for execution of the natural gas transmission projects towards a sustainable development in the region. |
