Resumen Resumen del autor, extraído del trabajo. This paper means to expose the fuel domestic offer, especially those currently used as transportation fuels (LPG, gasoline and diesel) and perspectives of their (qualitative) offer to meet international market requirements. On the other side, the rise of environmental preoccupations last years and the restriction of the air quality standards in both Europe and U.S. drove to a considerable effort of reduction of pollutant emissions especially those coming from the fuel utilization. The consequence of that was the very important qualitative improvement of these products in Algeria, particularly: - Gasoline pool (reduction in lead) - Diesel (sulfur reduction) Other efforts, are smoothly expected in the near future, particularly, in total elimination of alkyl lead and reduction of benzene and aromatic compounds in gasoline pool. Concerning diesel fuel, a sulfur reduction and polynuclear aromatic compounds restrictive limits (PNA's) are also expected. Generally, The oil refining industry generate gaseous pollutant emissions. These known pollutants for their effects on public health contribute inevitably to the deterioration of the ozone layer, smog etc. For these considerations, and to recover liquids sprayed contents in flared gas, a recovering project ofLPG from fuel gas has been achieved in Skikda refinery. The goal through this project is to re-establish operating conditions of units as foreseen by the design due to the variation of the crude quality treated in this refinery. We will also discuss about problems of waste management and aqueous sewages in refineries. A procedure of management of solid wastes in tanks is followed rigorously in our refineries and a project of burying of these wastes is in progress. Finally, we will finish this paper by the challenge that the Algerian refining industry must face in order to answer to the important mutations required by the markets and the adaptation of its tool to these changes. The retained approach being, to short term, is the optimization of the crude quality (less sulfur) in view to produce distillates conform to international specifications for 2000, and the rehabilitation of production units by continuous investment effort.
