Resumen Resumen del autor, extraído del trabajo. Optimization of FCC operations can have a profound effect on the overall economics of a refinery. IFP, in its role as process developer and licensor, has been active in FCC development for over twenty years. Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (SWEC) and IFP-TOTAL have successfully licensed their common technology for residue cracking (R2R) during this period. More than 20 grassroots units are now on stream and many other units have been revamped using elements of the technology. Experiments conducted by Total and IFP in the early 90s indicated improved product selectivity at short residence times. Original research work has been conducted in the field of ultra short contact time FCC technology using intense mixing and a down-flow reactor: Ultra Selective Cracking (USC). In bridging the gap between development and industrial operation, a new pilot plant was constructed to demonstrate key design elements at significant scale and ensure a leading-edge position in current cat cracking advancements. This enables IFP to conduct detailed investigations in the areas of short contact times, high catalyst-to-oil ratios and high temperature. The poster shows the improvements obtained in terms of conversion, yields and product qualities. To maximize the yield of desired products, specific operating conditions are required. The knowledge of these operating parameters increases process flexibility towards gasoline or light cycle oil production and improves operability to the refining industry. In the future, FCC units may be operated at riser temperature above current temperature to produce petrochemical feedstock while the riser residence time may be less than 1 second.
