Variaciones deposicionales del sistema Vaca Muerta-Quintuco en el sector central de la Cuenca Neuquina Ejemplos del área Fortín de Piedra - 2018 - 7 p. ; 105-112

The Vaca Muerta Formation is worldwide acknowledged for its potential as unconventional reservoir. Many shale-gas and shale-oil exploration and development projects are distributed around the Neuquén Basin with different degree of activity. In the central sector of the basin the development projects are currently producing unconventional oil and gas. In this context, we analyze the depositional characteristics of the Vaca Muerta Formation. The stratigraphic unit in this sector can be divided into three transgressive-regressive cycles. The oldest one has a broad aggradational geometry and contains the highest amount of total organic carbon. On top, anagradational-progradational cycle develops with very good geochemical and geomechanical properties at its base. Finally a broad progradational cycle is described with lower interest as unconventional target. Lateral heterogeneities within cycles of the Vaca Muerta Formation are controlled by the main depositional characteristics. It is vital to understand and predict these areal changes in order to develop an efficient development plan.
