Back in May 2012, CMS Cameron McKenna's Judith Aldersey-Williams wrote an article for Petroleum Review about the prospects of solving the problem of uncertainty about decommissioning tax relief, a long-standing barrier to investment in the UKCS. After a very intense period of negotiation, the UK government recently published the final form of decommissioning relief deeds (DRDs), marking a milestone in this 30-month collaboration between government and industry to provide that long-term certainty.
