Transcripción del resumen del autor: This article describes a detailed failure investigation to determine the cause and mechanism of a seam weld rupture of a 14-in diameter API 5LX-46 electric resistance welded oil pipeline. The presence of inclusions/stringers coupled with a large number of huge porosities/discontinuities at the weld seam rendered this point weak and led to the failure of the pipeline. Analysis methodology, the probable failure mechanism, and recommended preventivel remedial measures are described.
