The severity of dust storms, ultraviolet radiation, highly humid conditions, and soaring summer temperatures, all combined with a marine environment, seriously affect the life of paints and coatings in Saudi Arabia. In the study undertaken, paints with micro and nano titanium dioxide (TIO2) pigments were prpared and subjected to salt spray, immersion, ultraviolet radiation exposure, water, and dirt repellency tests, which showed that nanopaints are promising coatings to meet future challenges of the desert environment.
