From the winter of 2007/2008, millions of tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are to be delivered by massive LNG carries from Qatar to Milford Haven, where the natural gas will feed into the UK national transmission system. Each of the ships for the Qatar II project will have a cargo capacity of more than 210,000 m3, 40% larger than their predecessors. But not only the Qatar II ships larger, they will also be the first to use onboard LNG reliquefaction, along with slow-speed, heavy-oil diesel engines for propulsion. This is a major step forward given that its cargo is stored at a nicely-chilled-160°.
