Transcripción del abstract original del autor: Korean LPG market has grown substantially for the last 20 years since the first importer began to import LPG in 1982 by VLGCs to Yeosu terminal having a large UGS rock cavern. In 2001, demand reached 7.3 million tons, domestic production 4.1 and import 3.5 million tons respectively. During the planning stage of Yeosu terminal, the style of storage system was changed from the refrigerated AGS tanks to the UGS rock caverns to save about 40% of the initially planned cost. Thanks to the commissioning of Yeosu terminal, the UGS system was accepted to be an ideal solution for large LPG storage in Korea as it is not only economical for the project investment but also much more favorable in all respects like operation, maintenance, environment and safety. At present, in Korea there are four commercial import terminals owned by two companies, LG-Caltex Gas and SK Gas, and one stockpiling terminal owned by KNOC, all equipped with large UGS systems amounting to about 1.2 million tons of the aggregated storage capacity. This is the world’s largest for a country considering mined rock caverns.
