Estimación de hidrocarburos generados, carbono orgánico original y porosidad orgánica a partir de datos de pirólisis Ejemplos en la Formación Vaca Muerta, Cuenca-Neuquina-Argentina - 2018 - 18 p. ; 3-21

The pyrolysis data provide valuable information to calculate the amount of hydrocarbons generated in a source rock, the original organic carbon content and the organic porosity with a low cost and quickly. The basic data needed for this calculation are: Total Organic Carbon (COT in wt%), the S1 and S2 peaks (in mgHC/gRock) from pyrolysis data. The workflow requires that the source rock be brought to its original conditions of organic content therefore an estimation of the original Hydrogen Index (IHo) is mandatory to calculate the Transformation Ratio (TR). After that, the mass of hydrocarbons generated (S2t) and the Original Total Organic Carbon (COTo) can be calculated. Finally, a conversion from mass to volume is necessary to calculate the organic porosity (PHIORG). The application of this work flow in 52 wells and around 2745 samples shows the Vaca Muerta Formation has transformation rate (TR) between 50% and 95%, the initial hydrogen index (IHo) was at least 800 mgHc/gCOT, the original organic carbon content (COTo) reached up to 15% and the organic porosity (PHIORG) ranged between 2 and 6% of the total rock volume.
