Meseta Cerón Chico exploration area is located in Santa Cruz province, in Golfo San Jorge Basin. It has an area of 1,217 km2. Several 2D seismic recording campaigns were carried out and 11 exploratory wells were drilled before Pan American Energy began operations in 2017. All these wells were abandoned under name of "Dry exploratory well" In 2018, an 810 km2 3D seismic acquisition and processing was shot plus a 2,188 km 2D reprocessing comprising 87 legacy seismic lines. In addition to the background knowledge of Golfo San Jorge basin especially in Cerro Dragón area the PAE.SC.MCCh.x-1001 well was drilled in 2019. The total depth was 4,800 metres becoming the third deepest well in the basin. The main targets were Comodoro Rivadavia and Mina del Carmen formations. The reservoirs found in Mina del Carmen Fm. showed low porosities and permeabilities. The well was completed in 2021 involving a 10-stage hydraulic stimulation that involved the pumping of 23,509 sand sacks managing high temperature and pressure conditions. The first results obtained during the flowback tested 20,000 m3/day of gas. Currently the well is on production under evaluation. The results obtained in this well allowed the conversion of the exploration permit for the block to an unconventional one.
