Online resources: In: Summary: Hydrocarbon production in Mexico started in the Tampico-Misantla basin in 1904 and up to date it has accumulated 7.3 Bboe. Within this basin, there are three intervals of source rocks in the Upper Jurassic: Santiago Formation (Oxfordian), Tamán Formation (Kimmeridgian), and Pimienta Formation (Tithonian). These intervals are responsible for charging the main conventional fields in the basin. This study focuses on the Pimienta and Taman Formations. To carry out this task, 2D and 3D seismic data, geochemical information and well logs were available. The zone with the best geochemical and petrophysical conditions is located at the top of the Tamán Formation and the base of the Pimienta Formation. This interval represents a maximum flooding surface in the basin and has an average thickness of 100 meters distributed over almost 45,000 km2. This interval shows Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content between 1% and 3% on average. The thermal maturity of this section shows a progressive increase from an eastern immature sector, located on the Tuxpan platform, to a gas window zone, near the vicinity of the Sierra Madre Oriental, in the western sector. The storage capacity calculated for these intervals is 300 Bo/acre*ft, obtaining an on-site concentration of 9.3 MMbo/km2 for a navigation level of 40 meters average thickness. These values, added to the regional extension of the play, place the Pimienta and Tamán Formation as one of the unconventional targets of greatest interest in the region.
