The utility CFB boiler - Present status, short and long term future with supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam parameters

The technology has now evolved into large scale utility size units with units as large as 250 MWe in operation, two (2) 300 MWe units in the commissioning phase and starting up in early 2002, and designs developed for units as large as 600 MWe in size. Technology improvements are continually being developed and incorporated into the designs to enhance performance, increase operational flexibility, and improve reliability in a cost effective way. These improvements include features such as cooled solids separators and crossover ducts, integrated fluidized bed heat exchangers (INTREX™), fluidized bed ash coolers, and reheat steam bypass systems for reheat steam temperature control. In this paper the operating experience of current large scale utility scale boilers in operation is briefly described as well as the design and status of the next generation of utility CFB boilers which are scheduled to go into operation in the near term. What lies ahead with integration of the state-of-the-art supercritical once-through utility boiler technology with CFB boiler technology is also discussed. How the boiler designer weighs the options for configuring an OTU CFB boiler and a description of a 600 MWe supercritical boiler developed by Foster Wheeler are also described.| Current library | Status | Barcode | |
